Several schools in East Tennessee are closing for the remainder of the week due to a high number of absentee rates among students and faculty. Authorities say the flu is the main reason for the illnesses. As of Thursday afternoon, the list includes: Knox County, Christian Academy of Knoxville, Monroe County, Oneida Special School District, Scott County, and Union County Schools, and Webb School of Knoxville.
The CDC says the flu is widespread in the state. Health experts say there are things you can do to avoid becoming ill, including washing your hands or staying away from people who are sick. The CDC reminds us it’s still not too late to get the flu shot. A list of the latest school closings can be found here.
