The city of Knoxville was hit by a cyberattack Wednesday night according to a release sent to city employees on Thursday morning.
“Our Information Technology team acted swiftly and followed best-practices protocols to shut down the City’s computer network, identify and isolate problems, and minimize damage,” a Knoxville spokesperson said. “City offices and services are open and available as usual, though visitors to City offices may encounter some inconveniences. City departments are adjusting accordingly to address the needs of residents and businesses.”
In what the city is calling it a “ransomware attack,” no financial or personal information is believed to have been accessed.
Knoxville Fire Department and Knoxville Police Department both have been unaffected.
This is a developing story.
