Vols in the NFL – Week 1

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The NFL season is officially underway with Vols around the league making significant impacts in Week 1.

The season opened on Thursday night as the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs and Trey Smith defeated Baltimore 27-20.

Alvin Kamara kept the good times rolling in New Orleans as he carried the ball 15 times for 83 yards and a score, while also pulling in five catches for 27 yards in the Saints’ 47-10 victory over the Panthers.

With 110 yards from scrimmage, Kamara marked the 50th game of his career with 100-plus scrimmage yards.

On the defensive side of the ball in New Orleans, Alontae Taylor logged a career-high three sacks with six total tackles, three TFLs and one pass breakup. He joins Rodney Harrison – father of current Vol Christian Harrison – as the only defensive backs since 1982 to record three individual sacks in a Week 1 game.

Darrell Taylor invoked memories of “The Monsters of the Midway” as he wreaked havoc on the Titans’ offense Sunday afternoon. The first-year Chicago Bear finished his Windy City debut with eight total tackles – two for loss – two sacks and a forced fumble.  

Opening weekend was capped off by Jauan Jennings and the San Francisco 49ers defeating the New York Jets, 32-19, on Monday night. Jennings was targeted five times in the win and pulled down all five receptions for 64 yards.

Derek Barnett – Houston Texans – DE
Totaled 19 snaps – 18 on defense and one on special teams – in Houston’s season-opening win over Indianapolis. Registered one tackle versus the Colts.

On practice squad.

Jerome Carvin – New England Patriots – OL
On practice squad. 

McCallan Castles – Philadelphia Eagles – TE
On injured reserve.

Morgan Cox – Tennessee Titans – LS
Snapped the ball nine times for the Titans in their game at Chicago.

Joshua Dobbs – San Francisco 49ers – QB
Did not see any action in the 49ers Monday night win over the Jets.

Princeton Fant – Dallas Cowboys – TE
On practice squad.

Kamal Hadden – Green Bay Packers – DB
On practice squad.

Hendon Hooker – Detroit Lions – QB
Did not see any action on Sunday as the Lions beat the Rams in overtime.

Jalin Hyatt – New York Giants – WR
Played 16 snaps for the Giants on offense against the Vikings.

Theo Jackson – Minnesota Vikings – DB
Recorded one solo tackle in the Vikings’ 28-6 victory over the Giants.

Jauan Jennings – San Francisco 49ers – WR
Hauled in five receptions for 64 yards as the 49ers beat the Jets on Monday Night Football.

Gabe Jeudy-Lally – Tennessee Titans – DB
On practice squad.

Jakob Johnson – New York Giants – FB
On practice squad.

Velus Jones Jr. – Chicago Bears – WR
Finished Chicago’s win over the Titans with 19 all-purpose yards – rushing twice for 11 and pulling in one catch for eight yards.

Alvin Kamara – New Orleans Saints – RB
Rushed 15 times for 83 and a score, while pulling in five catches for 27 yards in the Saints’ 47-10 victory over the Panthers.

John Kelly Jr. – Baltimore Ravens – RB

Did not see any action against the Chargers.

Jaylen McCollough – Los Angeles Rams – DB
Played 12 snaps on special teams versus Detroit on Sunday night.

Emmanuel Moseley – Detroit Lions – CB
On injured reserve.

Josh Palmer – Los Angeles Chargers – WR
Pulled in two receptions for 15 yards in the Chargers’ 22-10 win over the Raiders.

Cordarrelle Patterson – Pittsburgh Steelers – RB
Rushed four times for 13 yards in Pittsburgh’s 18-10 win on the road in Atlanta.

Jalen Reeves-Maybin – Detroit Lions – LB
Made one tackle in Detroit’s overtime victory against the Los Angeles Rams.

Jabari Small – Tennessee Titans – RB
On practice squad.

Trey Smith – Kansas City Chiefs – OL
Helped pave the way for Kansas City’s Thursday night win over Baltimore, playing 54 snaps on offense and five on special teams.

Cameron Sutton – Pittsburgh Steelers – CB
On the commissioner’s exempt list.

Alontae Taylor – New Orleans Saints – CB
Had a career-high three sacks, six total tackles with three TFLs and one pass defended in New Orleans’ win over Carolina.

Darrell Taylor – Chicago Bears – OLB
Registered eight total tackles – two for loss – to go along with two sacks and one forced fumble as the Bears defeated the Titans, 24-17.

Cedric Tillman – Cleveland Browns – WR
Had one reception for three yards on Sunday versus Dallas.

Shy Tuttle – Carolina Panthers – DL
Finished Sunday’s contest at New Orleans with two total tackles.

Kendal Vickers – New Orleans Saints – DL
On practice squad.

Dee Williams – Seattle Seahawks – RS
Made his NFL debut on Sunday as the Seahawks defeated the Broncos, 26-20.

Darnell Wright – Chicago Bears – OL
Started and played 60 total snaps on Sunday against the Titans.

Jaylen Wright – Miami Dolphins – RB
Did not see any action in Miami’s 20-17 win over Jacksonville.

Byron Young – Los Angeles Rams – OLB
Had four total tackles, one tackle for loss and a sack against the Lions on Sunday Night Football.
