Heiskell, TN (WOKI) A landfill in Anderson County remains closed and an investigation is underway after a body is found Wednesday morning at the site.

Officials with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office say deputies were on the scene and actively investigating a report of a “possible body discovered” at the Chestnut Ridge Landfill just before 10:00 a.m., later confirming that a body had been discovered.

ACSO reports that the body was recovered from the landfill later in the day and taken to the medical examiner’s office for further investigation.

No additional details have been released.

The Chestnut Ridge Landfill is located on Fleenor Mill Road in the Heiskel community of Anderson County. The site is operated by Waste Management Solutions, which is headquartered in Houston.

Waste Management issued a statement to media Wednesday afternoon: “WM is cooperating with the authorities and will be referring all calls and emails for further information to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department as this is an active investigation.”
