Fire Crews Responding to Brush Fires Across Several East Tennessee Counties

The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office says some residents have been evacuate because of a brush fire.

The sheriff’s office says several agencies went to the fire on Bluff Mountain Road (Tuesday) tonight.

While information is limited about the fire, SCSO says residents within Tower Road, Green Top Road and Horse Gap Road were asked to evacuate the area, and everyone else in the area of Bluff Mountain should be aware of the current fire and high winds.

Crews with the Gatlinburg Fire Department have contained a two-acre fire just outside the city. It happened today (Tuesday) as most of the eastern part of the state is under some sort of fire danger warning.

Seth Butler with the city of Gatlinburg says multiple agency crews headed to the area of Wiley Oakley Drive and Greenbriar Lane to fight the fire.

Sevier County is under a burn ban and officials are asking everyone to heed this ban, as recent dry weather and low humidity have led to a very high fire danger.

Fire crews in Blount County are battling two separate fires.

The fires reported today (Tuesday), the first fire broke out on Scarlett Oaks Road in Maryville.

That fire is 100% contained and there were no evacuations in place.

The second fire was off Saddle Ridge Road and was not contained Tuesday night and some structures are threatened.

Also, the Tennessee National Guard is responding to wildfires in East Tennessee.

Their response comes at the request of the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency.

Tennessee Guardsmen will provide two Blackhawk helicopters from Knoxville’s 1-230th Assault Helicopter Battalion, to support wildfire response in Mountain City.

Each aircraft is equipped with Bambi Buckets used to provide hundreds of gallons of water to fight wildfires and are prepared to deliver water from nearby water sources directly to the needed area.
