BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Tennessee freshman Peyton Tanner has been named SEC Freshman of the Week after tossing a perfect game against Delaware State on March 1.
A native of Lake Jackson, Texas, Tanner made her second career start in the circle versus Delaware State. The right-hander tossed five flawless innings as she did not allow a base runner in Tennessee’s 11-0 run-rule victory.
Tanner faced 15 batters in the outing and recorded six strikeouts as she earned her third victory of the season. She is the first freshman since Karlyn Pickens in 2023 to throw a perfect game.
For the year, Tennessee’s pitching staff has thrown three no-hitters with Erin Nuwer tossing a no-no against Bethune-Cookman. Pickens recorded a no-hitter on March 1 against UT Martin that was immediately followed by Tanner’s perfect game versus Delaware State.
It marked the third time in program history—and the first since 2006—that Lady Vol pitchers have thrown no-hitters on the same day. It was also the first instance of a no-hitter and perfect game combo in Tennessee softball history.
Tanner’s league honor is the first for Tennessee this season.
