KPD: Knoxville Man Arrested for Assaulting Mother after Crisis Negotiator Response

Knoxville, TN (WOKI) A Knoxville man is taken into custody Tuesday morning after assaulting his mother.

Knoxville Police Department officials say officers went to a home in the 4700 block of Royal Prince Way at around 5:30 a.m. after 36-year-old Darryl Johnson reportedly choked his mother before grabbing a knife. The victim was able to escape the home safely before officers arrived on scene.

Officers also saw Johnson inside the home cutting himself with the knife, which resulted in Crisis Negotiators responding to the home.

KPD says Johnson went outside voluntarily and was taken into custody just after 9:00 a.m.

Johnson was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment before being booked into the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility on an aggravated domestic assault charge.

Crisis Negotiators were at the home for several hours Tuesday morning before Johnson was taken into custody, Knoxville police said. (Courtesy: KPD)
