Evacuation Orders are Lifted in Monroe County as Fire Crews Continue to Battle Several Brush Fires

TELLICO PLAINS, Tenn. (WVLT / WOKI) Evacuation orders are lifted in Monroe County as emergency crews continue to fight several brush fires.

The fires broke out Tuesday and burned over 300 acres.  

Crews are still fighting to contain some fires, despite some help from rain but they do have them under control.

Rafter Road Fire

Holder Cemetery Road Fire

200 acres burning

15% contained

1 structure lost

Road is impassable

Cherokee National Forest

Ranger station saved, slight damage to outbuildings and equipment

Important Information

Monroe County 911 said anyone who needs help from the Red Cross can call 423-807-6988.

Anyone in Tellico Plains who needs a place to stay after the evacuations are lifted can call city hall at 423-253-2333. The Tellico Plains Community Center is acting as a drop-off point for water, food and snacks for those affected.

The schools in the Tellico Plains area will be closed.
