The biggest losers in New York City’s new congestion toll is the middle class, New York City Councilman Joe Borelli told Newsmax on Monday.
“If you were to come with me one day and stand at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge and count how many Maseratis there are versus how many Mazdas and Toyotas and old beat-up minivans, I mean, you would be surprised to see that the people who drive to Manhattan every day aren’t the wealthy — they’re the middle class. They’re people who are plumbers. They’re people who are home health aides. And this is just crushing them with a [$3,000] to $4,000 bill every year,” Borelli told “Finnerty.”
The councilman went on to suggest that Congress or President-elect Donald Trump could play a role in reversing the law, which was approved by New York Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul.
