Democrats are arguing that the United States didn’t elect Elon Musk to conduct an audit of the government, but Rep. Jim Baird, R-Ind., pushed back on Newsmax Wednesday, saying voters knew when they elected President Donald Trump, that part of that was including Musk to look into government spending.
“You have to remember, the American people are the ones that put the finances and the money in the bank, so the federal government can use that to [finance] various programs,” Baird, a member of the House DOGE Committee, told “Wake Up America.” “And if it’s misused or if it’s gone to the wrong place, that’s how we end up with $36 trillion in debt.”
That’s also the reason that the interest payments are rapidly approaching the point where they surpass the United States’ gross domestic product, he added.
